As you hold Ruth in your arms, begin to embrace her love for her mother in-law Naomi, her honest and wholesome interaction with Boaz and her complete and total devotion to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Know that Ruth’s obedience and sacrifice to God’s plan bore her the ultimate blessing to be listed in the lineage of our Savior Jesus Christ. Then as you look into her eyes and stroke her hair imagine yourself gleaning in the fields under God’s protection. Then imagine what Ruth would be like in your school, in your neighborhood and in your world. She would honor her parents as you do. She would be a person of integrity as you are. She would seek the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul as you do. She would receive God’s blessings as you do. She would undoubtedly be the Light of Christ as you are. Aside from clothes and a few thousand years, Ruth was not much different than you and her story is every bit as relevant to you today.
